Addicted to Pinterest

Don’t lie. You know you scroll for hours on end while you should be doing something else more important. That’s right, I’m talking to you, pinterest lover. It’s ok, I’ve been reeled in too.

To those of you oblivious as to what pinterest is, it’s a website devoted to your every need. In my case, anyway. Whether you want do-it-yourself craft ideas, photography ideas, wedding ideas, recipes, you name it, pinterest is the site to go to. It’s for all of those creative people out there looking for inspiration. I have recently been drawn into this site because of one of my main passions: baking.

I seized the perfect opportunity to test out a recipe with my sister’s birthday this past weekend. My Oreo cupcakes were very well received. The batter as well as the icing was all from scratch, but I was confident they would be delicious. Taste of Home doesn’t disappoint.

You begin with taking one half of the Oreo with the cream facing up in the cupcake wrappers. After mixing up the vanilla cake batter, you crunch up Oreos and fold them in with a spatula. Pour the batter in the cupcake wrappers and bake for 18-20 minutes on 350. After they have cooled, whip up the frosting and ice each cupcake. Then, crunch up some more Oreos for a final touch. You end up with delicious cupcakes (pictured below).

One thing I would change would be to add pudding mix to make the cupcakes more moist, other than that, they were fantastic. Happy pinning!

The Most Photographed at UTK

The assignment: take a brilliant picture of the Torchbearer, the most photographed thing at the University of Tennessee.

These were the words I heard from my photojournalism professor last week. Today was a gorgeous day with not a cloud in the sky, so I took several pictures after classes.

Below, I have provided my favorite shots that I took. What do you think? This would be a good time for some opinions, please 🙂 Thank you!

Fashion Finds Friday

I may not be an expert on fashion, but I must say I do share a love of looking my best. Appearance is something media has capitalized on and told us this is fashion, this is beauty.

Fashion designers usually have a pretty high price tag that aren’t always affordable for those who love fashion.

I’m thankful my taste in clothing has evolved from jumpers and turtlenecks like the good old days of elementary school to modernized and trendy dresses with boots and leggings. As I became more financially conscious, I noticed that it’s not always feasible buying clothes from Gap and Express.

When affordable and trendy combine, there’s magic.

Music to a college student’s ears. This week I have a fairly simple, yet chic dress from Forever21.com.

There’s not much to this dress, but I like it for that very reason. Imagine accessorizing with cream leggings, orange jewelry, and lighter brown boots. How about those earrings, too. Cute, huh?

Fresh start

Hello readers,

I am in the process of a new project. Bear with me as I take this step in switching from Blogger to WordPress. I have noticed I like the display much more than Blogger because I feel it has a more professional look to it. It’s going to take some getting used to, but I’m up for the task.

As a writer, photographer, baker and traveler, I would like to share my experiences along the way. I have a big year ahead of me as I get closer and closer to graduating. Only a few short months left of this semester and this year. The new year is looking bright already as I look forward to my journalism trip to New York.

This semester has certainly been a test as I overloaded myself with 17 hours. It has been a lot of work and very stressful. I guess I didn’t know exactly what to expect. I had this outlook of “I can do it all.” I found myself balancing work, school, relationships and soccer all in the same bowl. Not an easy task. Let’s just say, I wasn’t getting enough sleep either.

At the moment, I have decided to quit soccer. I realized everything else is more important right now. I’m close to graduating, and my focus needs to be on that. I’m not sure what’s in the future, but I am optimistic. Here’s to a fresh start.
